Little brains learn and develop in different ways, at different paces. We help children to enjoy learning by using whatever particular thing makes them tick.

Every child is an individual

We believe a child’s educational, social, emotional and physical development all go hand in hand. It follows that every child should be treated as a ‘whole person’ – and, crucially, as an individual - wherever they are developmentally. Because we want to encourage and celebrate individuality, we often run ‘in the moment’ activities, borne out of the spontaneous interests of the children. Add this to the long list of pre-organised activities on offer, and the result is a very rounded, fluid and responsive approach to aiding children’s development and building their confidence as individuals.

A stimulating learning environment

Given the right tools in the right environment, children can truly thrive – which is what helps them learn and develop socially, linguistically, intellectually and physically. We want children to learn about their environment – so gardening is on the agenda. We want them understand food and health – cue mixing bowls and sticky fingers. By giving them the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of activities, we nurture their communication, listening, co-ordination and co-operation skills, all of which will stand them in good stead for school… and life beyond.

How we help children learn through play

  • Life skills (cooking, washing hands etc) – encourages independence
  • Sensory activities – helps children tune into the world around them
  • Role-play and singing – helps develop language and communication skills
  • Nature play – teaching children about animals, plants and weather
  • Gym, movement and dance – helps develop motor skills and self-expression
  • Music and rhythm – great for developing numeracy skills
  • ‘Little Voices’ programme – developed by speech therapists to aid language skills


The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS)

‘The Early Years Foundation Stage’ is the term given by the government to describe the stage of your child’s life from birth to 5 years. It’s an important time during which your child will learn core skills, preparing them not just for school, but for life. It should be a happy, enriching time – exciting and active, but secure and stable too.

The EYFS is similar to a primary or secondary school curriculum, but it's suitable for very young children, and designed to be flexible so that staff can follow your child's unique needs and interests. Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework
Our nurseries are registered to deliver the EYFS, which means we must follow a legal document called the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. Developed by a number of early years experts and parents, The EYFS Framework exists to support all professionals working in the EYFS to help your child. It sets out:

  • The legal welfare requirements that must be followed to keep your child safe
  • The 7 key areas of learning and development: Communication and language; Physical development; Personal, social and emotional development; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the world; and Expressive arts and design
  • Guidance for practitioners on planning learning activities, and observing and assessing what and how your child is learning and developing
  • Assessments that tell you about your child’s progress through the EYFS
  • Expected levels your child should reach at age 5, called Early Learning Goals
